| Good jazz artists | AJDrummer23

| To anyone who can help:
I'm don't know jazz artists very well, and I would like to start purchasing CD's. The only jazz drummers I really know are Louie Bellson, Buddy Rich, and Gene krupa. The only artist I'm really familiar with is Maynard Ferguson. That's a style of jazz I enjoy. I'm looking for modern jazz drummers to study, especially who play latin style. Any suggestions would help. Even names of drummers, preferably who are still alive. | | Message posted 2970 days ago | IP Logged |

| For some really hip modern jazz, listen to any Dave Holland (bass player) stuff. His drummer is Billy Kilson. This cat can swing his ass off, then change gears and crank out some smokin' latin grooves.
For some totally mind-blowing cutting edge drumming check out STEVE SMITH. He plays all styles with total command: jazz (swing), rock, latin. If you can find some recordings by his group Vital Information, you'll love 'em.
Anything by Dave Weckl. He has a handful of solo albums out that, again, will BLOW YOUR MIND. He too, is a master at playing many different styles equally as well. His songo (latin) grooves are ass-kickin!
Also check out www.drummerworld.com. This site is a drummer's wet dream. It is a "who's who" in drums. SBL138081.0046296296 Lee
