| For you road warriors, empty out your gig satchel, gym bag, backpack, Anvil case...whatever you haul it all in and inventory the contents.
Let me know what you "absolutely" have to have with you every night to make it thru live weekend gigs.
For you newer drummers, heads up and take notes. These responses may allow you to pack enough "essentials" so you never have to live thru a night of frustration.
Never mind...you're going to have many frustrating gigs, but this list of goodie bag fillers will help ease the pain. I hope!
I learned a helluva lot since 1970, from my own experiences and from a lot of other drummers. Here's what gets me thru each and every gig: *I always use a second hand, small, black, nylon, generic, gym bag. The cheaper, the better! *Roll of duct tape (100mph tape, as it's known in the Army). *Small aluminum, waterproof flashlight with headband for hands-free use (You never know when you're going to blow the fuses in a cheap bar). *Box of assorted fuses (never know when the bass player is going to forget to bring an extra one or when your effects processor is going to need one). *Box of disposable, expanding foam earplugs (for those tiny stages where you end up in front of the bass and guitar stacks). *Multi Tool with needlenose pliers (actually, I always carry this on my belt). *Two hand/sweat towels. *Chapstik (I don't share this baby). *Bottle of Advil or Tylenol (I get one of each and mix them together). *Bottle of Tums or Rolaids (the food at most truckstops is okay, but sometimes...) *Bottle of Visine (I don't smoke, so this one is a lifesaver!) *Chloriseptic Spray (Cinnamon), for that unscheduled sore throat. *Box of assorted bandaids and first aid creme. Those cymbal edges can be sharp as razors! *$5.00 in toll booth change (emergency beer fund too). *A couple of three-prong to two-prong plug/cord adapters. *Velcro cord ties. *Notepad and pen (for receiving and/or giving phone numbers). *Soldering pen/gun and rosin core solder (the first time you need it on the road, it pays for itself). *Extra 20 foot XLR to XLR mic cord. *Extra 20 foot 1/4" to 1/4" guitar/speaker cord. *Extra 1/4" to 1/4" patch cords. *Extra 9volt, AA, AAA, d,c, batteries. *Extra microphone clamp. *Extra cymbal felts, washers, nuts, bolts, allen screws (and wrenches). *Extra windscreen for YOUR microphone. *Extra Sharpie (no one was more surprised and flattered the first time someone asked me for my autograph).
YES, I really can fit this all into one, small bag about 18" long by 6" around. Some items you may not use for months or years, but when you do need it, you're set!
So, what's in YOUR gig bag!?!? ...from a Native American language meaning "Stale-Lump-In-Back-Of-Leather-Pants" | | Message posted 2472 days ago | IP Logged |

| Damn!
For me... Extra sticks, extra snare drum, spare bass drum head, some gatorade or water, super glue, a multi-tool, I always lose my damn duct tape , and for those hot summertime outdoor gigs - a personal cooler full of beer, water or gatorade, powerbars and other snacks Lee
