Okay, Gene's not as he died nearly forty years ago, but the blue sparkle Slingerland kit is here.

I can't load photos into this computer, but I'll figure out how to get something for you to see.

The drums are in good condition. The wrap is fade free and the chrome is unpitted on all of the drums.

The 13" tom is nice and clean, it has a new Remo Ambassador batter and the original resonant head.

The 16" floor tom has original heads top and bottom and looks virtually unplayed. It does have very light lifting at the seam.

The 18" floor tom is super clean but has lightweight generic resonant heads top and bottom. All of the washers are missing on this drum as well, but the tension rods look original.

The bass is clean and perfect. It has the original logo resonant head and an older "Evans Heavy Rock" head on the batter.

All told, it's a great score. I do intend on switching it back to the single tom mount. I'll put new heads on it and it will look and sound like it's 1973 in my house every day.

Sounds like a real classic! Wish I could hear them. Knew you couldn't last long with everything packed away!

Graet Mike I hope you get to play it before you have to pack it up.

Your going to need a big house when you get settled.

Indeed.

I'm planning on keeping the DWs set up all of the time. The other kits will be in rotation.

Anything not set up will be packed and ready to go.

Yes, that was an easy guess.

Mike - You're going to have to set up a snare database soon just to keep trtack of what you've got.

track

Better just make that a drum gear database.

You have a point.

I could list my kits in detail off the top of my head.

I could sit down and list my snares from memory and come real close.

I could never list all of the cymbals including models. I haven't been able to do that for a couple of years.

(Thats sort of embarassing to admit...)

I put new Remo coated Ambassador batters on the toms so far. The bearing edges are in great condition. I've tuned it up and I I'm happy with the results.

I'll put clear Ambassadors on the resonant side next and a Aquarian Superkick II on the bass in the next round.

I REALLY like this kit.

The snare is due tomorrow.

Wow you've got a real classic there. For being 30 some years old it sounds like it's in real nice condition. Can't wait for the pics and maybe sound filesSmile

Matt the happy cow.

Thanks Matt,

It really is a beautiful kit whether you are talking about sound of looks.

The sound with the Remo Ambassadors on it is as traditional as you can get. (Without calfskin...)

Traditionally I've never really cared for blue sparkle. My first kit was a set of cheap, blue sparkle, japanese Del Rey drums made in the sixties. The finish was a medium blue sparkle done with what looked like dime-store glitter to me. It was supposed to resemble the blue sparkle finish that some of the major american manufacturers used. The color was close to Gretsch and Rogers, the quality wasn't even close.

Slingerland's "Sparkling Blue Pearl" finish that they used from the late 50's until the late seventies was a darker blue glass glitter. (It was used on the Leedy drums made by Slingerland during the same period.)

I do like the darker blue sparkle, which is a good thing since I own two kits and two snares wrapped in it.

I'll post photos as soon as I have my computer set up in a couple of weeks. I still have no way to post sound files.

I fially have a way to post a photo of this kit.

It is still in Virginia right now. I bought a 24" case for it this weekend when Dennis and I stopped at Dale's in Harrisburg. I intend to bring it home on my next trip to Richmond if I have room in a car.

It only took me three months to get a picture posted.
