| Evans G2≠ Snare head? | mrhappycow

| Alright so I'm trying get your thoughts on the heads I'm putting on my snare.
I had an old remo emporer on there and it had good bite, but was also meaty. I liked it but the coatings gone and it's old
I went and picked up an Evans G2 so it's double ply but nothing fancy just like the Remo I used to have but I just think evans has a deeper tone that I like. Most likely a different coating or how they're made I really don't know, but I hear a difference.
So upon checkout the guy there who I know pretty well and by name asked me what I'm using it for. I told him a maple snare. He looked at me puzzled and told me these are usually tom heads. I know for a fact there is a difference between snare and tom heads be it a power dot or rings, but whatever works right? Why can't I use a reverse powercenter on a tom?
So I'm just wondering if you think the emporer and g2 just basic 2 ply coated, but tried and trusted heads are fit snare heads. I've tried the gimicks. The powercenters the dampner rings but yet to try the HD by Evans. They all can do one thing very well, but me and I'd hope most others don't play one type of music I need both a really meaty and fat tone for soft rock and acoustic and then the bite and sustain for metal. Why do people seem to be attracted to the flashy ads and why are we drummers of all people confined to rules especially on which heads to use?

If this band was a person, it would be president. If this band was visual art, it would be the main attraction at Louvre. If this band was a book, it would be holier than the bible. -METALLICA

| I wouldn't use it, but if you like the sound, go for it. Al in Illinois - Member since February 4, 2007.
I just love to beat on stuff with sticks!

| If you like the sound use it I've seen plenty of snares with double ply heads. Steve Gadd uses a Power Stroke, frequently with additional muffling, and sounds great. If it sounds good to you, and sounds good out front with the band, and you can play without killing yourself with effort and tension, it's all good.
And Duncan, I also find G Plus heads are really nice. I'm using them on my DW toms and they really work well. No small chore, DWs are very picky about heads. Still using G1's or Remo reverse dots on my snares though. Gene | | Message posted 174 days ago | IP Logged |
