err, yes put on right all decent heads will sound ok with or without a mic blank

err I beg to dissagree if a head has to much dampening it will not project enough.Just wondering how much dampening the EC2's had.

I prefer EC1's. Just the right amount of control for my taste. Combined with the EC1 resonant side head, it sounds even more focused and punchy with still a good bit of warmth and fullness. Lee

Menalaus you said any decent head put on right will work with or without a mic.Moongel is a damping product just like the EC2 ring so if you can't hear your toms how do expect your audience to hear them? So I think maybe EC2's would work better miced up.Remember this site is about shareing ideas with your fellow drummer's.

People hearing your set don't really hear the top head, they hear more the reso side, why drums sound different to them. There is not that much damping on the EC heads they just cut the higher over tones, if you really worry about it put on G1 heads or tune higher.

Ec2's dampen yes but I still need to use a moongel on my floor time...

In reality they still ring almost as much as a basic 2 ply head the dampening ring is placed in between the two plys so I don't believe you can take it out...

Word of the wise if you can check the heads before purchasing I have seen some heads where there is always a wrinkle no matter how high you tune them... Sometimes (only seen it once out of dozens of heads) the head isn't seated right inside the metal ring so if you put enough tension on the lugs to get the wrinkle out it just de tunes the drum

Anyway I play evans EC2's on my mid and floor tom and they sound great I'm buying one for my high tom (My old ec2 head I had for my old kit doesn't fit Argh!

)
Great heads I suggest going to a place like sam ash or guitar center and just ask for a drum key and find a kit that has EC2's on them and tune them and see if yah like them
