Jackie is a good sport. She not only understands my wanting to visit different drum shops, she did the homework to find this shop...

http://www.thedrumpad.com/

We visited there yesterday.

I played a few snaredrums i haven't run across before and they had an amazing set of Ayottes that sounded terrific. (...they should, they cost $7100 for a 5 pc shellpack!)

I played a Trick snare that was very different.

Cool place. They had amazing kits, but some of the ugliest finishes I've ever seen.

We don't stop playing because we grow old.

I used to live near Chicago, and the Drum Pad is one of two things at the top of the "things I miss about living out there" list.

(The other is a fantastic little Vietnamese restaurant in DeKalb, IL.)

What a fantastic drum shop. I'm due to visit Chicago again in the next year or so, and when I do, a stop to the Drum Pad will definitely be on my itinerary.

Ayotte is expensive here, and it's MADE here!

One of my drum shops nearby has an 8 piece Ayotte kit as follows:
8x8
10x8
12x8
14x13
15x14

20x16

14x6 snare
12x4 steel snare, flanged hoops

Everything is maple and has maple hoops except the last snare drum. They sound awesome. They look awesome (satin rosewood). They cost an awesome amount of money too (about $6,000 if I remember correctly).

It's funny Ray left but they kept making custom drums.

Don't buy them!

They're stolen!
