premier are starting to produce a 'hidden' rims style mount that sits under the hoop....they look alot less bulky than the normal type

Mike, aren't yours more 'rosewood'? I have a Gretsch kit in rosewood, but also have one in cherry (and dark walnut).

Actually, mine are in "walnut" finish. They appeared more red in the pictures.

Sounds similar to the newer type Starcast mount on the Tamas. They are still completely free from the shell unlike the DW/Mapex type but hug underneath the rim allowing tight side by side positioning.
