Funny, I think of it in exactly the opposite way. There are so many companies these days trying to come out with high tech, 'modern' lug designs and I think most of them just look stupid.

To me, a tube lug is classic representation of a quality, custom level drum.

I personally like the old streamlined "bullet" lugs like Slingerland or Gretsch used. The DW lugs are cool to me because the "turret" lugs go back to the Camco kits. (Thats who DW bought the tooling from.)

Tube lugs work because thay go back to the REALLY early days. The first Radio Kings in the 1920s had tube lugs.

I like Ludwig lugs, but if I was building a kit I'd try the single point lugs to cut down on the hole drilling.
I also like the look, very clean.

Yep, I love Gretsch lugs. And the Yamaha lugs (that they have on the Absolute series, not the nouveau) I like quite a lot.
