My wife and I saw Gergiev conduct the Kirov Opera at the Met a number of years ago, performing Prokofiev's Betrothal in a Monastery. One of the most brilliant performances we've ever heard. I became a fan instantly.

Gergiev does a free concert every year here in Moscow. It's about 3 or 4 kilometers from my house.

Chad Smith for Red hot chilis (i love his funky beats in a rocky kind of band, theres too many boring rock drummers around)

or

Matt Sorum with Guns and roses, shame there not together any more, though im sure there songs will be played for a long time to come

crash,

Is that an Easter season concert? US Public Television recently broadcast a profile of Gergiev, who was shuttling between various ensembles in preparation for a number of different performances, including preparations for an annual concert which (if I remember correctly) took place around the Easter holiday.

My wife and I could tell, just from hearing the production at the Met, that Gergiev definitely has his act together as a musician - and this televised profile definitely confirmed that.

Yes Gergiev plays a lot in May here, May 9th is Victory Day and May 1st and 2nd are holidays too. He has some fest here at that time so he's playing gigs everynight for a week or two. The guy is huge here and his manager told me some funny things about him. But yeah he's great.

No question it would be Tower of Power. Brian Setzer's big band would also be a gas.
