So true, Mr. Uber Can-humper! Don't blow your wad in the first song, or the rest of the gig will seem like a let-down.

There is a good article about 'playing tastefully' in this months Drummer magasine, written by the drummer in my mates band - Tom Meadows!!

Basically, he says play the song not to show off! The drums are an instument - so play them musically!

I just hope everyone starts to understand this concept.  If everyone plays together and does not show off how good they are then music is created not fast loud noise....

Im obsessed with Thomas Lang at the moment so i talk about him all the time, but his double kick is amazing! He uses accents, flams, 32nd notes and a heap of other impossible techniques to play double bass musically. U gota hear some of it to believe it!! Personally i think double bass is good but a bit boring after u hear it for a whole song. I get more impressed by a drummer thats not playing much at all and then does one crazy thing more than a drummer thats all chops and speed.

That is the essence of great drumming - there is something special about simple beats played exceptionally well, and then that little touch!

That is Ian Paice through and through Sorry - I just love his style!
