I'm pretty well set for drum set cymbals these days, but I stumbled across this old Sabian in a local shop, and I simply had to take it home. It's going to get a ton of use as a suspended cymbal on my symphony gigs. (I suspect, tho, that it would flat out kill as a left side ride on a jazz gig as well.)

It's marked as an "extra thin," but I don't have a scale and don't have an exact weight. It's fairly light and flexible, tho.

I'm not up on my Sabian history, but I think this one dates back to the earlier part of the company's history. I'm not a big Sabian guy (nothing against their products, I just tend to find my sounds elsewhere), but this one's definitely a keeper.

Keep that one it's from the beginning, 1985 or less.

Put a photo on www.sabian.com and ask cymbal Bob.

Another drummer I know has a crash and ride (can't remember if he has hats) from the same era - they're very special cymbals, absolutely a joy to listen to.

The Sabian 16" AA crash from those times was the best crash cymbal I've ever had! Many people told me "what a great crash you have"

Absolutely gorgeous cymbal you've got a beauty right there Gene.

I like how you can really see the hand lathing in the second and a little in the third picture. Good find Gene!!

James,

Interestingly, after extensive hunting, I've found that my 18 K Constantinople Crash is my favorite left side ride.

I've also 'snuck' my K Custom 20" flat ride with rivets on the right side under the Constantinople 20" Medium ride and 16" crash. Add the 13" Hi Hats and you have the most beautiful cymbal set up I've ever played for the proper applications. 3 ride options from the glassy flat top, moving left to the 'smokey' medium ride, and culminating on the far left with the 'trashy' 18' crash.

I have no shortage of colors to accompany with.

uhhpp. Sorry James.
Being that Sabian was made in 1982 you have one of their very early cymbals... most likely one from 1982 because yours and this look very alike.
