However, All of the above do lower the Quality of the recorded music. They may be farily close but the are not. I can hear the difference between 24bit/96Khz, 24bit/48Khz, tape and CD..... And I don't like what I hear below that.... It's missing a lot of the fullness and richness that I personally like in music.

egh i prolly couldnt tell you the differance between cds and tapes or anything so it doesnt bother me. i bought it mainy because of ease its a lot easier to carry a cell phone size mp3 player than a trapper keeper size cd case will 3 or 400 cds.

steve i absolutly agree. CD or DVD audio played through a decent set up pisses all over any encoded music.
these portable players are good to have though

Nobody's saying that mp3's are as good as original CD's, but the vast majority of people won't be able to tell any difference. That's why mp3 players are so popular.

People in our profession (musicians, recording engineers, etc) CAN hear the difference, but even still for most of us (me included) mp3's still sound good enough for general, everyday kinds of listening.

I can however respect the ears of a recording specialist (Steve) and can understand why he wouldn't particularly enjoy ever listening to an mp3. It'd be kinda like trying to watch a good widescreen movie on an old 1970 13" TV.
