Someone recently commented that some kind of intervention is needed. Is there a 911 number for gear-heads? DevilishDevilishDevilish

They say that the first step is realizing that you have a problem...

I don't have a problem. Devilish

I just have a bunch of cymbals...

and snares...

and kits.

My brother pointed out to jackie that this is a deep seated issue. When I was a kid I had hundreds of Hot Wheels cars...

As a teenager I had hundreds of albums...

You guys have seen my CD collection...

My garage is FULL of tools.

Okay...

Maybe I do have a small problem.

Hey, if you're going to have an obsession, drums are probably one of the healthier ones to have. More power to you!

Hey at least you have something to show for your expenditures...

Unlike the heavy drinkers or drug users who would have nothing to show.

Additonally, not like your gear in appreciate in value over the shrott run.. they sure will not depreciate that much as you got the stuff at fair prices

I think that I've done okay, particularly when it comes to cymbals. I never looked at any of it as an investment. (I'm not that dumb.) But it is reassuring that what I own is at least worth something.

And after all... it may not be a sound investment, but it is an investment in sound.

Good instruments do indeed appreciate. the first Zildjian I bought cost $73 new. At todays prices it would cost $300. Assuming the usual music store 50% retail price on used Zildjians I'm still ahead. I've had my Martin for 10 years I could sell it and make $500 on it.

Some of my stuff definitely has appreciated. I bought the first set of blackrome Slingerlands with a COB Gretsch model 4160 snare for $275 in 1992.

I could that get for the snare by itself.

Washington Music sold me my DWs brand new for less than I see the same kit for used on ebay.

So, I guess I'm doing okay. But it doesn't really matter to me because I'm not looking to sell any of it.

I'm not looking to sell any of my gear either but it's nice to know the value is there just in case. It also increases the drool factor when other people see it.Cool DudeDevilishArgh!

It's just cool to be able to take down a Radio King and set up a Dynasonic because you're in the mood for that sound. (I did that the other day...)

I do play all of my toys, and so does my best friend Dennis for that matter. They are worth the investment to me.

And having a kit for Stanton Moore to play in a master class doesn't suck either.
