Holy sh*t! I never knew it was so good! Just started getting into it, as well as blues and jazz.

Im steering away from rock n roll I think for now.

yeah, there is some really strong classical stuff. i dont get into opera much. We played a song in high school band called Asmodeus. at our last concert we had the string class learn the song, and we all got up there and played it together. it was phat as hell. only problem is, after learning and loving this song, i dont know who wrote it, who played it, or anything! i cant find it ANYWHERE. i found one thing on it, and from what it said, it was an independantly written piece by the band teacher at va tech. thats all i've found. . ....help!

I heard a piece of music once, and for several years I have been trying to find it, as it is without doubt my favourite song, but I have only heard it once! (Thats how good it was!)

I don't know if anyone remembers it, it was in a car advert, and there was classical music playing and it was raining, and the cars were crying.

Music is music...  There are years and years of it.....  I'm lucky I guess every member of my family is into different types of music....  So I go from jazz to classical to punk to country to blue grass to.....  It's all GOOD

the reason i dont like classical is there is no drumming in it (like proper drumming)...i like Gene Krupas band though ...is that classical

Classical drumming is probably better defined as "orchestral" drumming. Although those guys don't like to be called drummers, but rather...<clears throat>....percussionists.....

Gene Krupa is a "big band" drummer. (jazz)

i am a percussionist, but i'm really into my jazz as well! i'm really into jazz vibes and stuff, but i love playing all percussion -- from congas to triangle -- its not just drums that is vital in a band - you need the texture created from the other percussion instruments!!

People in concert bands and orchestra would be correctly called percussionists as they play much more than just drums.  I played in concert bands through out college and it was a gas.  I played all kinds of things from snare to wood block.  Plus I got to beat the crap out of the bass drum...  when it said loud (FFF) the director wanted loud.  I think all musicians need to listen to all style of music.  It will help in your all around knowledge and skills.

Actually I use the term percussionist to refer to a melodic way of playing the drum kit.  I'm not a banger, noise maker or a time keeper,  I'm a musician and I play the drums musically.  So therfor, I still consider myself a percussionist.
