Unfortunatly orthadox grip is not taught much - all the 'beginner' guides start with matched grip...so to these yonng-uns it is normal!

Shame...everyone should have a practice with both and deside what they prefer - although matched grip tends to be easier around the toms!

and playing left hand lead. i couldn't imagine hitting the hats with traditional all the time.

It makes the reach a bit awkward! But I suppose you would set-up the kit to allow for that if you only play trad.

I play traditional about 99% of the time. Playing hats for me never felt un-comfy. Of course, neither does matched, but I guess like anything else, it's just what you're used to. I rarely do left-hand lead stuff, though. I should do more Dave Matthews covers .
