Does a new bass drum head improve the performance of a pedal?

i would like to know that bcause ill buy a pedal and i would like to know if its a good idea to buy a head .

the head that i had actualy is a no name with a hole in the middle .

You don't have it backwards do you ?? That hole may be for the mic.....

If your bass heads are "no name" then getting new good name brand ones (Remo, Aquarian, Evans) would definately sound better, but  not necessarily make your pedal feel better, depending on how cheap the head you have is.

Did you mean that the head your pedal hits has a hole in it?

 

As far as getting a new head goes, I strongly recommend it!

I strongly recommend the following:

Aquarian Super-Kick I with the black Regulator with the 4 3/4" offset hole

Evans EQ4 with the EQ3 front head (offset hole.. choice of clear or black)

Remo Powerstroke 3 with the Powerstroke 3 Ebony front head (offset hole)

 

The Aquarian heads will give you that low-end you're probably looking for out of your bass drum.  The others will probably be a lot better sounding for mic'd situations.
