Over the years I've read a lot of biographies and autobiographies of musicians. This is something odd that I've noticed. A lot of the British musicians went to art school before becoming musicians.

Off the top of my head...

Jeff Beck

John Lennon

Eric Clapton

Keith Richards

Pete Townsend

Rod Wood

Freddy Mercury

Roger Waters

Nick Mason

Ray Davies

Brian Eno

Syd Barrett

Maybe it's what the Brits do with talented misfits. (misfit in the positive sense)
