Drummers get better at tuning, drumheads are better, recording technology is improving and I hope engineers are improving.  The drummer is hot on top of that so the sound is very good.

Yes, very true. Drums just plain sound better these days, especially with good new heads and proper tuning. And Technology in the studio has improved leaps and bounds, but even still, some recordings sound better than others, and Chicago's newer recordings have an amazing drum sound. They almost sound "alive" like living and breathing. So crisp and warm and resonance for days. That drum sound melts in your mouth if that makes any sense at all...

Of course I understand all of this is a subjective thing and different drummers have different ideas on what makes for a good drum sound....

I'd recommend any of the tracks off of the "Night and Day" CD. It is a collection of old jazz standards done "Chicago style" with funky grooves and stuff. Pretty cool!!! Definately find "Goody Goody" and "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" and the title track, "Night and Day"

The snare sounds killer and his toms sing and moan like a bitch in heat .
