Set lists help. No debate, no one misses the name of the next tune, no delay.

One tune ends, I wait for the end of the thunderous (or dismal) applause, and I count off the next tune. Audibles are OK as long as it doesn't degenerate into a debate.

We played out first gig with our new key board player last night. For the most part it went well, although on 2 songs we screwed up somewhat. Other than that we smoked everything!

Because there was another band on after us and we were only playing about 1 1/2 hours I had agreed to use the other drummers kit to save on switching time and remicing, etc. I regretted it as soon as I sat down. It's not a bad kit, Pearl Sessions, but first off he had them tuned so low there was almost a "flap" to the head when you hit it. I hated the sound. Plus he sets them up in a very different configuration to mine, and there wasn't enough time to reconfigure them so I went with what he had set up. Never did get used to the set to the point of being comfortable. PLUS he had some "for show" crap around the kit that neither of us ever touched and it just got in the way. This was the second (and last if I can help it) time I have played a gig on someone else's kit. Wasn't happy either time! LOL

I'll post a pic or 2 when I get them.Pleased

Yeah, that really sucks. I have to play other people's kits quite often. I'm still not used to it, although with practice, I think I'm getting better at playing solidly, despite not feeling comfortable.

i have found that one thing you should always bring to share a kit is your throne. It helps you "automatically" get into your comfortable position and feel better on another kit. Then, depending on the drummer, you can adjust other stuff accordingly. just make sure you put it back. and if they dont have memory locks, THEY ARE STUPID, and its not your fault when they can't get it back to how they had it...lol

Better yet I think I'll just take my kit from now on, and if they only want to set up/mic one then the other guy can use mine.....or he can piss off!Devilish

Jeez, I see what you mean, Derrick! The toms are on different levels, the bass drum is canted up too much and the cymbals are too high. Other than that, the drummer loooks Cool Dude!

These are bagpipes. I understand the inventor of the bagpipes was inspired when he saw a man carrying an indignant, asthmatic pig under his arm. Unfortunately, the man-made sound never equalled the purity of the sound achieved by the pig.
