I guess I worded that wrong... What I really wanted to say was to not have exaggerated arm movement.... My captain this year played with nothing BUT arm, it was annoying and because he was captain, the instructor and director didn't correct him.... it made me a little more than mad....

IF your looking for help with rudaments go to the vic firth student center at http://www.vicfirth.com/education/studcentersnare.html they got tons of good helping material and not only sheet music and they got music players that play the rudiments at diffrent speeds!

Also if your just startin marching band look at the Jeff Queen video on tricks its pretty sweet.

Remember: its all in the wrists. try to use your wrists more than your arms. Online you can also buy rudiment books with all of the rudiments in them, assuming you can read music of course. Also, find some videos of some good drumlines and practice in front of a mirror to try and look like them. your best bet for good lines would be the Caviliers, the madison scouts, both really great lines, but for gods sake avoid the blue devils!!! Their overly flashy style is just rediculous. There rolls are too crunched and all those flashy stick flips are just unproffessional. There is a time and place for those flips, and its not every three minutes of your show. Oh, and definatly avoid that crap movie "Drumline" Well, good luck!

Dude get this book:

Stick Control
For The Snare Drummer
By: George Lawrence Stone

It's about 70 years old, but trust me it is THE BEST book for ANY drummer, not just snare drummer, out there. It will teach you how to control the stick so easily and quick! However it does take a little perseverance and a little determination! Check it out!
