| Im from the uk and ive been drumming kit since i was 14, im now 18. ive recently in the past couple of months got into rudiments and drumline/drum corps drumming. Im realy sad coz the uk has no high school or college bands for marching or drum corps or anything so drum corps dont exsist at all. thats why ive only just got into it. I realy realy wanna learn, is there any tips or scores anyone could send me that help in any way. ive been learning basic rudiments of Vicfirth.com so i (think i might) have the basics.
the rudiments i can do succesfully are:
single stroke roll double stroke roll five stroke roll seven stroke roll nine stroke roll thirteen stroke roll fifteen stroke roll seventeen stroke roll drag flam flam tap paradidle double " Triple" Paradiddle-diddle
i just wanna learn properly from someone whos learnt from the begining. can anyone help?

| how long have you been playing snare? ive been playing for about 10 years, but i cant really help you to play, all i can say is practice a lot, atleast every night, and stick to what you know, until youve perfected your technique, then go on....its alot easier to learn that way.
good luck with your shit. pc3

| im 18 now, ive been playing drumkit since i was 14 and ive only just got into snare. all the stuff i can do is listed in the first post on this thread. i practice for like an hour a night and usualy whenever i can through the day. i've been composing some little arrangements on http://webmayhem.net/drum/upload.php. its a pretty kool website for a begginer like me. but i need to practice stuff that people like you have used in the past and that will help me learn but at the same time challenge me. anything else you know would be extremely helpful.

| Hi, I've been playing the drumkit for two years now (grade 2, working on three) and im also in the UK (west london area) and interested in playing marching snare. Im probably not as skilled as you but im really interested to learn so maybe we could learn together. | | Message posted 2232 days ago | IP Logged |

| I played marching snare last year, all I have to say is focus on the technical aspects and worry about the flashy stuff after you have the basics and technique down.
Don't play with arm, the biggest problem most set players that want to learn marching snare have is playing with arm, for everything from piano to some fortissimo, there should be NO movement in the arm, it should all be in the wrist and fingers (fingers if it's 16th notes or rolls at fast speeds)when you get anywhere above fortissimo, then there can be movement in the arms but, with my drumline, the only time we use arm is for visuals.
I don't have alot of the rudiments down, I'm 15 and have only been playing drums altogether for 5 years and I just got over myself, so I'm starting to work on it, get all the basics out of the way and marching snare will not only be alot easier and more fun, but it won't be as frustrating.... good luck. | | Message posted 2232 days ago | IP Logged |

| Hey drumline_wannab
go to www.marchingbands.org.uk and click on links. At the bottom you can find your county and there will be a list of youth marching bands in the area. | | Message posted 2230 days ago | IP Logged |
