I still need Constantinoples...

I'm thinking they will wait until we are in a new house after the big trip.

I'm sure.

There is a sound I hear in my head that I don't have yet in my cymbal arsenal. I think the Constantinoples will fill it.

I love a good flat ride - Danny Gottlieb with early Pat Metheny, Airto with early Return To Forever, and of course, as Gene mentioned, the estimable Mr. Haynes. PleasedCool Dude

...and Danny Gottlieb with Metheny:

If I only owned one ride, it wouldn't be a flat, but when it's the right choice, it's the right choice. They're really a "gotta hear it in context" cymbal, tho - mine doesn't spend much time up on my kit in the practice room, but with a band, I love it.

One other thought: on my vibes gigs, I like it when my drummer uses a flat, at least some of the time. It leaves plenty of room, sonically speaking, for the sound of my vibes - the wrong cymbal can make things hellish on a vibes player, washing things out completely.

That's a good point.

For tomorrow I have my birch kit tuned up in "be-bop range, and "K"s so I sound a little different.

James makes a great point, and I do find a flat ride leaves some 'vacant frequencies'.

SImilarly, when I'm playing an acoustic gig with a stand up bass I like a bit tighter tuned 18" bass drum. Another case of freeing sonic ranges for others.

....But that's really a conversation for another thread.....
