There's a drummer in town (a good player) that's got a custom drum made out of a solid, hollowed out piece of wood.

I *really* want this snare drum. I ended up pricing one out at the shop I work in and it would be around $750 (ballpark figures of course). Worth every penny though? You bet!

I wonder if the DW processed woods are more dense than any naturally dense wood.
