Company Background

Sonor was founded by Johannes Link. Johannes was a wood turner and tanner. He soon started making his own drums, starting with military drums. He also started manufacturing some drum heads. His workshop lay in Weißenfels an der Saale in east Germany.

Johannes registered Sonor as a trademark in 1907. Demand was increasing and Sonor was becoming more of a well known brand than ever before, and became known for being one of the largest drum companies in the world at the time, however they were known for being one of the more expensive companies as well.

Sonor after the Second World War became a government owned company, however Johannes son Otto Link set up a new company in 1946. The company was established in Westphalia in West Germany.
